Connect to the Internet via a virtual private network service to browse the Internet as an anonym. Choose the available locations or let the utility use a random US-based server. Offers a decent transfer speed and a free service. Encrypts the connection using the AES-245 algorithm.

Surfing the Web securely and without compromising your IP or any personal data is becoming more and more frequent these days, especially when suffering from country restrictions. Betternet connects you to the internet via tens of virtual VPN servers in various countries that provide you with just the level of anonymity that you need to enjoy the Web without limitations.

Betternet is a free VPN tool that connects you to a random virtual server and replaces your true IP with a fake one so that nobody really knows who you are or from which country you are browsing the Web. The connection process itself couldn’t be simpler – just click on the Connect button and wait for the screen to change to “Connected”. The program offers in its minimal settings window the option to prevent IP leak and to connect automatically to Wi-Fi spots (safe or otherwise) and to other specific networks that may compromise your identity.

Though Betternet can connect to a wide choice of servers from countries all around the world, the free version of the program will connect you to a random server of its choice. If you wish to select the country yourself (or even a specific server in a specific country), you’ll need to upgrade to a Premium Account. This paid version of Betternet also offers you a faster connection and the promise to remove all ads.

The free version used for this review connected to the VPN server in less than a second, and I found no problems while browsing all kinds of web sites. Thus, unless you need to use a VPN sever located in a specific country to avoid country-based restrictions, the free version of Betternet should suffice most users.
